As a busy woman in my late twenties, I’ve participated in my fair share of online dating. But then, hasn’t everyone? It’s become the norm… or so I’m told. And yet, over a glass of wine (or two, or three) my girlfriends still lament their online dating love-lives.
Why didn’t he write back? Should I wink first, or wait for him? Is my profile picture too blurry? Is it too revealing or too plain? Should I tell them I have six cats? Should we go to dinner first or just drinks? Should I wait three days to write him back? And the number one question they ask me is, How did you meet your boyfriend online and make it work?
I’ve been on three different dating sites and dated two wonderful men (one from eHarmony and one from Match), both of whom turned into long-term relationships and one of whom I am still with to this day. I’ve been on good dates and bad dates, been rejected, turned men down, been sent photos of penises and had one man (after I said no to a date) tell me he hoped I’d die in a fire. Rather specific, don’t you think?
But through it all, I’ve loved my online dating experience. It’s not for everyone, but it might be for you. So if you’re just starting out or are a digital dating veteran who needs a little encouragement, I hope these daily tips help. Or at least give you a laugh along the way!
